this past wednesday desmond started kindergarten. it has been exciting and a little nerve racking for me. just plain exciting for des.

the busses are still running a little funky but school itself seems to be off to a good start. the day before, i took desmond for a walk to his school to check it out and we were lucky to run into his teachers and also check out the school and playground. i told des if he wants to trade i will happily let him do the audit and i will go to kindergarten!

desmond's first day was a big deal. he really loves the school bus. i decided thati even though he is still in special ed partially(he is integrated this year) id have him ride the regular bus so he can mingle with the general population and therefore have plenty of friends once he metriculates into the regular classes altogether. i can not stress how much i LOVE his new school. easily one of the best on the island. i signed up to be a parent volunteer and he gets to learn with k, 1st and 2nd in some instances along with his regular kindergarten curriculum. is that a great idea or what? younger kids have role models to learn from and older kids get to feel important by helping the little kids, fostering independence and self esteem. this school program is awesome!

anyway desmond jumped up and down the minute he saw the bus. apparently he sat next to a pretty girl with blonde hair and a boy helped him tie his shoes and is now his best friend. he has befriended the little girl at his bus stop and i have gotten chatty with her mom. i am told they are expecting to have 14 kids next week at this stop...all in possibly for the same elementary school. think they are gonna need a bigger bus!

day two his class read "where the wild things are" by maurice sendak. (i love this book!)

they also performed the story and desmond was one of the wild things. yea i know. a real stretch for him right? lol at any rate it was my baby's acting debut.  CHECK OUT THE NEW SLIDESHOW OF MY BABY ON MY MAIN PAGE!

by day three my little angel managed to get in trouble on the bus. seems he scratched and spit on another kid and was mouthy to the bus driver. (god he reminds me of someone...) so i had to have a talk with him. aside from that problem he seems to be adjusting well to the full day routine and has been enjoying some pretty yummy and nutritious hot meals at school. he gets breakfast AND lunch and i can add money to his account online. how great is that? he is aking friends in spite of being somewhat bashful around other kids and seems genuinely happy. i think between this new school and feling secure in our new place...plus having more time with a mommy who actually has energy is actually starting to have a positive effect on him and he is calming down. things appear to be looking up for both of us!

anyway, this has been my proud mommy blog. everyone have a great night. i am off to turn my insides out as i appear to have the stomach flu and hopefully the gm can find someone to cover my shift as i am not equipped to deal with a full house and an active gut. looks like an early night for tura.

darkest blessings from desmond and his mom!
